@imaMACfanatic Because when you are as big as Oprah, there are some social senses which are lost. In this case, she thinks that it’s okay to talk about her friends in a self absorbed way that is not compatible with the situation. If she mentioned this in a 1 on 1 conversation it would be fine. She’s used to talking about personal things that have no value on her talk show in which she speaks to millions, I’m sure its the same mechanism at work here. The rest of her speech was pretty good imo.

I agree with woah455 – who care’s what she did I would have more admiration for what research she gave back to Stanford or how high her GPA was. How superficial.

Who the hell is Kriby? Why are they ruining graduation with this nonsense? At least she proves you don’t need a degree from a designer school to get a good job.

i personally have issues with her speaking at stanford university and especially when she had exhibited some unappealing behavior in the past or when she has dealt with some people who are just a bunch of phony star seeking celebrities trying to steal needed attentions.

Are people really complaining about her talking about Kirby. Kirby is like her child. She’s her god daughter and the daughter of Oprah’s best friend. The whole reason Stanford was even able to GET Oprah there was BECAUSE of Kirby. So why shouldn’t she mention her. She was the reason Oprah came, and she is Oprah’s god-daughter. And since Oprah has no children, she’s practically her child. More importantly of 29 minutes, she only talked about her for three lol. Relax. It was a good speech.
