Michael has the unique ability to make us swallow bitter music industry pills, smiling all the way. Youth? Bleh. Give me these new facial lines born of the passion, sorrow and smiles of my 30s over those heinous teen years.

You should buy books on making it in the business (google/Amazon it). attend craft shows and seminars like the one u see here, meet alll kinds of people, attend talent shows (don’t be elitist, attend everything lol) and network network network. Read up bios of people who have made it and you’ll be surprised at how much work they’ve put into their work. Good luck. “Passion, Persistence, Patience and Professionalism” and you’ll succeed.

wow! you really know music. that’s why your going to make it into anything Tom Petty sold approximately 2.5 million copies in the U.S. it shows your lack of knowledge. I heard your bass playing not bad. unless, your trying to do music for “Seinfeld”

I get your point! I’m a pianist… but, you think that musicians shouldn’t make a living for there music? YOU ARE A FUCKWIT!!! your a record label? I myself am as well GCR. but, you have to understand money has to come between something… if you want to be homeless and play on the street for 5 dollars a day be my guest. you think that Tom Petty or Motorhead really say “it’s not about the money.. it’s the love for music man!” HELL NO!!! it is about music. I am always finding music.

dumb ass i have my own label and every show i play i get a check three times a year.i get paid for every song i play and i get paid for radio play and i get paid from digital sales.its about 80% to me and the rest is there fees for providing the service.your problem is you have it backwards any musician waiting for a label to rob them is a fool and it sounds like you dont really know the game.every check i get its a blessing because i created something and the system is there to reward me.

Labels and “Publishers” Don’t pay you! Do you even know what you’re saying? Musicians PAY them. A percentage of the musicians sales and royalties go to the labels, which in return they pay studio/recording costs etc. You try playing a 20 show tour without being paid. I won’t be giving you a penny on the sidewalk. IT is about gifting, sure, and if you’re bloody lucky, money won’t be extremely necessary…But anyone looking for a job in the industry needs money. This is what is being said here.

music should never be a job it’s a gift if labels and publishers give you money for your art you are a lucky person.

Music CAN BECOME a job if you’re earning the money. He isn’t saying its ABOUT money, it isn’t, but If you wanna make music a living then you gotta make money with it.
