london is not good on 24-hour culture.Traditionally, a night on this town has amounted to no more than an evening….session down the pub. Draconian licensing laws and tansport schedules have always conspired to send many Londoners back home by midnight and they still do.Still, over the last fifteen years, the rise of club culture across the UK….a lot to get rid of the restrictions.Luckily,London’s biggest venues have now extended ….times to 7a.m, and there…a growth in the number of pre-club-bars and after-hour parties, which means that at the weekends there’s plenty of dancing beyond dawn. However going to a pub has remained for most english people and foreignes the best and, often, the only way to spend an enjoyable evening after a day’s work or a tiring visit to the town. You can find pubs on almost every corner of every town, but what attracts young people most of all are”theme pubs”,which ….not just in London, but throughout England.Theme pubs are pubs that have sprung up to cater for a “niche” public, such as sports fans or Star Trek fans or people of certain nationalities.Examples of theme pubs include sports bars, rock pubs, biker pubs,Irish pubs, sppoky pubs and many others. Some of the stranger pubs attract tourists from all over the world, like the Somerset House(enville street, stourbridge, west midlands). This pubs offers its visitors something very unusual. It… famous as the pub where you can “park”your pint unsupported on its walls!A miracle, a trick or pure magic? No,just a …..phenomenon that a group of scientistshave tried to solve. They …at the…conclusion that wallpaper glue is responsible!Their assumption is based on a supsicion that a combination of glue, old tobacco smoke and grime is enough to hold a full pint of beer against the wall, sometimes for a day or more, although they admit it is very odd.But regulars at Somerset House are not convinced and believe the walls are magic, while others insist the pub is haunted.Spookily enough, coffins were once assembled just
out the back and tales abound of mysterious happenings over the years.Another interesting pub is The Barge Inn(Honeystreet, near Pewsey,Wiltshire)The appearance of “crop circles”and the mystery taht….them since they were first discovered has always attracted the attention of people, and in the heart of the ale of Pewsey lies a pub that is very much part of these…phenomena. From late spring each ye
ar.The barge Inn is located in a country area taht is well-known for its many crop circles. In fact, parts of the Inn look more like a research lab than a pub.Giant notice boards in the pub’s “Crop Room “keep visitors up to date with what is happening and there are photographs letters and diagrams everywhere.A huge map covered with coloured stickers shows the location of past and present crop circle sightings and the manager…..the place into a focal point for the curious hordes who descend on the pub each year.On the ceiling of the “Crop Room” is a sprawling muraòl that depicts the ancient monuments of Wiltshire-Stonehenge,Silbury HIll,Avebury and the White Horse. All are linkedwith circles, swirls, and other symbols that have been spotted in local cornfields. And what about the Pack’o'Cards(HIgh street,Combe Martin,Devon)? This is an oddlooking pub which is a magnet for tourists. It was built by the village squire in 1690 as a tribute to”lady luck” with the money he won at a card game.He wanted it to look like a deck of cards, it stands on a plot of land measuring 52ft x 52ft(representing the number of cards in a deck),has 4 floors (representing the number of suits in a pack),with 13 doors on every floor and 13 fireplaces (rapresenting the number of cards in a suite)
